Since the “official start” of our homeschooling adventures last Tuesday, which was only a week ago, we already “took off” two days. The little ones and I came down with some bad sinus infections. Needless to say, we were on the couch reading books most of those two days, with the occasional special treat video when my throat got too scratchy to continue reading. Every year for Christmas my husband makes a home movie of the pictures and video that we shot that year, so we watched the last two years of our family growing.
This week I wanted to get right to business. I came up with a little arts and crafts project to do with Myra.

Reid tried to help but his idea of helping was sitting on the art supplies or sticking a pencil into the glue stick. Myra had a good time helping, she especially liked being the official glue girl.

She helped me pick out the colours that we used for the project and place the glued pieces in the right spot. When we were all done, she asked if we could hang it on the refrigerator.

Here we have the small canvas covered with book pages from a very old textbook of mine that has just been sitting in the attic collecting dust. I’m a huge book lover, and tearing pages out of this book made me cringe, but really, nobody would ever read this textbook for fun. Believe me, I thought I might one day. Nope. So I decided to put it to use for this arts and crafts project.

While I cut out of the shapes for the owl, Myra glued them down. Aren’t her little fingers just so cute?

The outline for the owl that we glued the pieces on to.

And our final project. The completed owl with all his little pieces on top of the book pages. I thought it was a scholarly first arts and crafts project. I hope to do at least one project a week.
Do you have any ideas for great arts and crafts projects for preschoolers?
Happy Homeschooling!
